Are you ready for some sentencing?

With apologies to Hank Williams's Monday Night classic, I cannot help but do a little song parody as I gear up for tomorrow's scheduled sentencing date for Conrad Black and Michael Vick (basics here).  Here goes:

Well it's Monday in court and we're ready to riff!
Time to get all the points, the levels and the briefs.
It's sentences of the year that's comin' your way.
The lawyers and the judges are ready to play.
We gotta get ready, we gotta get right
Cause prison terms are getting handed out before tonight!
So get ready. I mean, get ready.
Are you ready for some sentencings?! A Monday prison party!
I have not established an official betting line on either sentence, but I would probably set Michael Vick's over/under at 18 months in prison, and I would set Lord Blacks over/under at 8 years in prison.  Readers are encouraged to tell me whether they'd take the over or the under for either prominent defendant.

Vick 18 months Should it really be a Federal case? I wonder how many dog fighting cases the department of justice handles each year?

Black 5 years all because of the obstruction of justice charge. 5 years will be a big loss for the DOJ

These days I love to see the DOJ lose

Not because I agree, but Vick - over 18 months. Lord Black over 8 years. It is criminal the DOJ wants us to pay taxes for these sentences.

My prediction for Vick is a year and a day, plus big fines, etc. Most people probably think he deserves more, and he very well may get more, but even though the odds are highly against my prediction, I'm gonna go with a year and a day. No preidction on Black, I don't know enough about it.

I'll take the over on Vick, esp. considering what his co-conspirators got.

I'll take the under for Vick. Enough is enough. Let's move on.
