Michael Phelps to avoid state prosecution according to local authorities

This just in from the news wire:

Michael Phelps will not be charged with marijuana possession, though the Olympic champion swimmer admitted to being pictured holding a marijuana pipe at a Columbia house party in November, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott announced today.

Speaking now during a press conference at the Sheriff's Department headquarters, Lott said his investigators couldn't find enough evidence to charge anyone — including Phelps — who attended the party with any crime.

Lott had declined to say in recent days whether he would press charges, though legal observers interviewed by The State said charges were unlikely because Phelps was not caught by authorities committing a crime and that credible witness would be difficult to find, making a court case difficult to prove under South Carolina law.

Let the guy be. Sheesh. How many of the accusers can cast the stone and not have the same thing apply to them? Have him do community service and let him be. Smoking pot is not the same as it used to be. Presidents, including Obama have done it. You all need to get a life!

The only people who want Phelps to be charged with a crime of smoking pot are religious fundamentalists. They want to impose their disgusting religious hate into our private lives. Nobody cares that Phelps was caught smoking pot. The religious zealots want to scare everyone into their column. Rise up against these fascist assholes! Don't give them any satisfaction and strike them down!

So Michael Phelps is a guy who drinks at parties smokes a little gambles on high stakes games of beer pong and is the all time greatest Olympic medal winner he sounds like a pretty cool guy to me. Michael Phelps is an American Hero. He stood tall and made America proud at the Beijing Olympics. This is how he is treated. Michael Phelps did a tremendous amount of work to achive what he did. Who can forget the pride we felt with the each gold medal Phelps won in China, how can we as Americans forget all of those things and hang a man for smoking a glass water pipe at a college party. It is time that we as a country stand up for the rights of the individual, it’s time we stand together with our neighbors and take collective control of our destinies. Write any congressman or a senator; imagine the weight of millions of emails calling for a change in policy. Lets stop them from arresting college kids at parties in America.

Most of the public opinion is that nobody cares if he smoked pot! The sheriff got his publicity and life goes on.
