Anthony Weiner given 21 months in federal prison after his plea to "transferring obscene material to a minor"

Anthony Weiner was scheduled to be sentenced at 10am this morning in the Southern District of New York federal courtroom, and apparently US District Judge Denise Cote did not need very long to figure out what sentence she thought fitting.  This AP piece provides a blow-by-blow, and here are excerpts:

A prosecutor has urged a judge in New York City to sentence Anthony Weiner to a significant prison sentence to end his “tragic cycle” of sexting.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Amanda Kramer told a Manhattan federal court judge Tuesday that Weiner on three occasions in 2016 asked a 15-year-old girl to display her naked body online and to perform for him. The prosecutor noted that sexting had already ruined Weiner’s congressional career and spoiled his run for mayor of New York City before he began interacting with the teenager. Kramer said Weiner should go to prison for between 21 months and 27 months....

Anthony Weiner called his crime his “rock bottom” as he spoke just before a judge in New York City sentences him for his sexting crime. Weiner fought back tears and occasionally cried Monday as he read from a written statement on a page he held in front of him in Manhattan federal court. He said he was “a very sick man for a very long time.” He asked to be spared from prison.

The Democrat’s lawyer, Arlo Devlin-Brown, had asked that Weiner serve no prison time....

Anthony Weiner has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for sexting with a 15-year-old girl in a case that may have cost Hillary Clinton’s the presidency.... Anthony Weiner must report to prison by Nov. 6 to begin serving his 21-month sentence for sexting with a 15-year-old girl.

As his sentence was announced Monday, the former Democratic congressman from New York dropped his head into his hand and wept, then stared straight ahead.  After the hearing ended and Judge Denise Cote left the bench, he sat in his seat for several minutes, continuing to cry.  Weiner was also fined $10,000.  After his sentence is served, he must undergo internet monitoring and must have no contact with his victim. He must also enroll in a sex-offender treatment program.

Before announcing the sentence, Cote said there was “no evidence of deviant interest in teenagers or minors” on Weiner’s part.  She also said he is finally receiving effective treatment for what she said has been described as “sexual hyperactivity.”

"Cote said there was 'no evidence of deviant interest in teenagers or minors' "

What the hell does that even mean? He wanted to have sex with a 15 year old girl and under the law and the current DSM that is deviant. So if the judge isn't relying on the law or psychology to define deviant, then how is she defining it? One more example of how the elites get treated differently: when poor people do it that are icky perverts but when the well-connected do it there is no evidence of deviance.

I find it highly offensive that Clinton believes the Weiner affair was a factor in the election. The real Americans putting Trump in office wanted political change, and nothing else. They were right given what has happened to the economy. It was business, nothing else. Any other theory is just insulting to their intelligence.

"He wanted to have sex with a 15 year old girl and under the law and the current DSM that is deviant."

Cybersex? Still, yeah, don't know what "no evidence" means. That is the sort of thing were a few quotes without more context confuses me. But, welcome to media articles.

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual is a disgrace. It is total trash. Doctors should know better.

They are being replaced by brain based Research Domain Criteria.

However, this is the DSM approach. DSM would not classify Weiner conduct as a paraphilia disorder, even if one denies that a 15 year old female is really an adult. From a review of child porn and the DSM 5.

"The proposal to distinguish paraphilic disorder from paraphilia derives from the fact that the diagnostic criteria for the paraphilias have two components: Criterion A, defining the presence of a paraphilic erotic interest, and Criterion B, requiring clinically significant distress, impairment, or acting out the paraphilia with a nonconsenting person. Meeting Criteria A and B is necessary for a diagnosis of paraphilic disorder; meeting only Criterion A indicates a paraphilia. Use of pornography is better placed within Criterion A, perhaps as an example of a behavioral manifestation of pedophilia. If the Sexual and Gender Identity Disorders Work Group's true intent was to add a third prong to Criterion B, then the criterion must be modified to restrict it to the use of illegal forms of pornography (i.e., visual depictions of real children), excluding written or aural forms or virtual images."

You misunderstand the text by getting hung up on the word "pedophile". Weiner is not a pedophile, he was engaged in ephebophilia. He meets criterion A and B as an ephebophile.

"Ephebophilia is used only to describe the preference for mid-to-late adolescent sexual partners, not the mere presence of some level of sexual attraction. Generally, the preference is not regarded by psychologists as a pathology when it does not interfere with other major areas of one's life, and is not listed by name as a mental disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-5), the ICD-10, or as a paraphilia. However, the preference can sometimes be diagnosed as a disorder if it results in dysfunction or exploitative behavior, under the DSM specification 309.2, "Paraphilia Not Otherwise Specified"."

Given that jail interferes with major aspects of one's life, and given that he just what to jail for his preferences, it would classify as a disorder per above.

On a different note Above the Law has this (humorous?) post.

"Anthony Weiner was sentenced for engaging in sexually explicit behavior with an underage girl. But Weiner sentenced America to 248 days (and counting) of total incompetence. He is a monster."

Ephebophilia is not a disorder, it is normal. That is the age at which females are the most attractive to all heterosexual males.

Will he have to register as a sex offender? And if so, how many years?

Posted by: tommyc | Sep 25, 2017 8:09:25 PM

"If the judge deems him a Level 1 or a Level 2 sex offender, Weiner will have to live with that label for at least 20 years. If the judge deems him a Level 3, he’ll be a registered sex offender for life, required to notify the police every time he moves and barred from schools and other places children congregate."

Interesting wrinkle. Looking at various articles, unclear what level he was deemed.

The "Tier" of sex offense is determined by the crime of conviction. Without researching it, he's Tier II. He's also subject to state SO registration requirements, which probably would be lifetime registration, depending on the state.

RE: Finding post pubescent, pre-adult teens most attractive sexually:

Ah, no. Actually, HELL no!! Do NOT prescribe "all" to most rational men. Teen males, obviously would find them attractive, and I'll submit up to age 20 if there is social interaction, but NOT older males, and certainly not males old enough to be their fathers, or worse yet, their grandfathers.

I don't doubt there are sexual attractions for certain individuals, but virtually every male I know prefer college age-up as their minimum-age sexual preference.

I've worked with sex offenders much of my adult life. Most of the ephebophiles I"ve worked with who were originally attracted to such teens prior to their arrest found that the attraction from such an age difference is derived more from lack of compatibility with adults their age than for attractiveness. But even the relative majority of former offenders who've been both punished and treated have more normalized developed sexual preferences. Not all, of course, but most.

A safe course of action is a time stamped video of the target's live birth •

If under age 30 (40 is safer) ...
Then pass ‼️

Back in the day, women didn't generally go to college. It was relatively common for females under the age of 18 to be married, even by those over 20. I think this is somewhat related to social developments. And, I'll be interested at the ages at issue. I think it is fairly common for older guys to find sixteen year old girls attractive. A bit perverted as that might be to many people.

Eric. College age? You mean fat, saggy,, and feminist? I do admit that, teen girls open their mouths, you want to smash your head on a wall, and jump from a window. You may be speaking of companionship, friendship and marriage.

I have claimed that adolescents are superior to adults in ability. Sexual attractiveness, fitness, and physical ideal are no exception. A lot happens at 14, biologically, religiously, and culturally for 10,000 years of human history. Nothing happens at 18 that does not happen at 19, and it is a tiny change. 18 is feminist lawyer bullshit scheme to keep superior people out of the work force, imprisoned in that worthless, make work for worthless government employees, forced babysitting service against their will called, high school.

I am speaking of 2% body fat, and moving twice as fast. Sample by clicking at random intervals on the video below. You do not want to spend too much time watching this video. Mercifully, they do not speak.

Joe. "A bit perverted as that might be to many people."

Only to filthy, sick, feminists and their male running dogs, like those prosecutors. They always falsely accuse people of sex crimes. Accusations of sex crimes by feminists and their filthy male running dogs are 100% false, on average.

Each accusation should result in a prison sentence that Martha Stewart got for lying that she did not receive a phone call to FBI agents, 5 months in stir, 5 months house arrest, and 2 years probation. I am including accusations made in a public forum about a public figure.

I am beginning to think you cannot control the weasel. Every single post is like that. I am going to leave you alone about this topic.
