Another July 4th open thread seeking comments on liberty and freedom in the USA
Blogging is likely to be light this holiday weekend as I am on the road visiting family. But, as I has happened before, the morning of July 4 makes me eager to highlight some prior Independence Day blogging and to urge readers to use this space to comment on the state of liberty and freedom in the United States.
Some prior July 4 posts:
- 2013: "Judges refuse to delay order to release 9,600 California inmates"
- 2012: Judge down under laments mandatory 20 years (with parole) for brutal contract killer
- 2011: An Independence Day open thread seeking comments on liberty and freedom in the US
- 2010: Celebrating our declaration of rights to "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"
- 2009: What to the American imprisoned is the Fourth of July?
- 2008: Celebrating liberty in the country leading the world in incarceration rates
- 2007: House hearing planned to examine Bush commutation
- 2006: A holiday retrospective on Blakely fireworks
- 2005: Celebrating liberty, Blakely-style
Obviously, the last couple of years I have not done special July-4th themed posts, but I sometimes think all of my posts on crime and punishment are infused with inherent Americana.

Freedom from the fear of crime.

SC -
I couldn't disagree more. Let me state clearly that I've been a victim of serious crime several times over during the course of my life, and I sympathize with anyone who has had the same experiences. I don't like it. But I also believe that the risk of crime is the price we pay for living in a free society. When I do the balancing test, freedom and liberty always win out for me over personal safety.
Don't misunderstand me. I don't condone what criminals do, and I want them to be caught and punished. But the only way to really be free from the fear of crime is to put a straightjacket on society, with surveillance cameras on every street corner, and the government recording every phone call, email, internet search, and store purchase. I value my privacy too much to tolerate that.
Today, of all days, I celebrate freedom and liberty, knowing and accepting the potential cost of doing so.

Turns out, it is Americans who hate their freedom.

Arf: All the government programs you do not like are phony make work rent seeking programs to generate jobs for members of the Democratic Party, including Homeland Security initiated by George Bush, a Harvard B School grad.
There are rich and poor low crime nations. They share these features.
a) high levels of public self help. Criminals fear the public more than they fear the police.
b) Low rates of bastardy.
c) Lots of corporal punishment.
I live in a nearly crime free zone, only a few miles from one of the worst slums. Here, an armed robber gets blasted at the scene, with no excess force litigation. I live in a lawyer residential area. There are 2 registered sex offenders. They work here and go home at night. The lawyer has taken care of itself.

I favor SC’s environment •
KNOWING that the RISK of being blasted @scene increases RISK=0:REWARD=HIGH ratio so much (towards RISK=HIGH:REWARD=0 „ that the Wannabe Armed Robber [WAR] has second thoughts or goes elsewhere •
Dead or critically wounded WARs do not evolve to Armed Robbers who harm others •

On Independence Day it is a good time to remember that No one should stand for nor chant the Pledge of Allegiance. As a student, I discourage other students from pledge and I educate them that the Pledge was the origin of the Nazi salute and Nazi behavior (see the discoveries of the historian Dr. Rex Curry). The early pledge began with a military salute that was then extended outward to point at the flag (thus the stiff-arm gesture came from the pledge and from the military salute). rexcurry.net/ It was not an ancient Roman salute (that is a debunked myth). The pledge was written in 1892 for kindergartners to be forced to recite under the flag at government schools (socialist schools). The pledge was written by an American socialist who influenced other socialists worldwide, including German socialists, who used the gesture under their flag's notorious symbol (their symbol was used to represent crossed "S" letters for their "socialist" dogma -another of Dr. Curry's discoveries). The pledge continues to be the origin of similar behavior even though the gesture was changed to hide the pledge's putrid past. The pledge is central to the US's police state and its continued growth. Don't pledge allegiance - declare your independence!

Jim. There is a busy avenue that separates city from suburb. A drug dealer was told the money was in the trunk of a car in a parking lot on the suburb side. He refused to cross the street. The undercover police was made to bring the money to the city side. The dealer understood, on the city side, nothing would happen, the prison being full, and the attitude blase about crime. So the marked contrast in crime rates applies to sides of single street.
I believe the crime rate is carefully set by the lawyer. If crime were eliminated from central city and moved to the suburb, real estate values would soar in town, and plummet in the suburb. Paris has that arrangement, low crime in town, high crime and ghettos filled with dark skinned Arabs in the suburbs.

I tried to restrain myself, but cannot. Freedom from the vile criminal cult enterprise hierarchy of the lawyer profession.
Arrest, try, and summarily execute these internal traitors, about 20,000 traitors.
Crime drops by 90%, because all criminals are deceased at the earliest age palatable to the public (about the murders now taking place). The economic growth shoots to 10%. All decimated sectors make a come back. The patriarchal family recovers, with the near eradication of bastardy. Educational attainment becomes world class. Name a social problem, and it is gone. That includes terrorism, because our warriors will be allowed to kill them and not hobbled by embedded, filthy lawyer traitors, pro Islamist commissars of PC. They cancelled the order of a Four Star general, and deter our warriors, cancel orders down to the squad level. The $trillion a year consumed by this vile criminal cult enterprise is transferred to research and development of basic science and technological application.
Only a Lincoln class lawyer President can lead this march to freedom. Or else a violent revolution targeting the traitors is started if the public decides to support it. That is possible if unlikely.
I recall the case of a bully allowed to terrorize a town for years by the vile pro-criminal justice system. Someone shot him with a rifle in daylight in front of a dozen people. That case has never been solved because no one cooperated with the police, agents of the pro-criminal lawyer profession. That is the template.

Freedom from fear-mongers, broadly defined.
We are not a nation of cowards. Yet that is exactly what the fear-mongers want to turn us into.
Posted by: Fred | Jul 5, 2014 11:47:01 AM
Fred: We are nation of cowards, fully deterred by the pro-criminal lawyer traitor.
After the George Zimmerman prosecution, would you ever, ever intervene in a crime, not even call 911 for fear of prosecution. The bad guy is glorified by the vile lawyer traitor, all the way to the Lawyer in Chief, our pro-criminal, pro-terrorist, Collaborator in Chief. And the guy preventing crime, the victim of a vicious beating, he gets prosecuted for killing a thug.
A friend in Florida sees a thug beating up his emaciated mother outside. He walks out, shows a licensed, legal pistol and orders him to stop. Guess who gets arrested and has tremendous licensing hassles now? The thug? No. The thug and the mother write to my friend, thanking him for preventing a tragedy, yes the thug is grateful he did not go further in a moment of impulsive rage.
The vile feminist prosecutor subhuman has him arrested, and there has to be a plea deal for aggravated assault and probation. My friend is so grateful after processing and some nights in jail, he takes it and the 50,000 civil consequences of a criminal conviction.
Night riders need to visit these internal, subhuman vile lawyer traitors and apply the lash. Tie the piece of filth to a tree. To deter. As with George Zimmerman, the police investigated and found no charge could be filed.

Then there is the lady, victim of vicious and repeated, highly foreseeable wife battery. She fires her gun into the ceiling to stop the charge of her thug husband. She gets 20 years in prison, being black, and the husband, being a criminal, he gets nothing from the vile feminist lawyer traitor.
Again, killing lawyers will just make their replacements happy, there being unemployment in this useless, treasonous profession. The lash must be applied. Direct action groups of victims and their families. Anyone prosecute them for lashing a filthy pro-criminal judge? They get the lash.
