Is Big Pharma already a bigger threat to kids than Big Marijuana would be?

The question in the title of this post is prompted by this interesting new piece up at The Crime Report headlined "The RX Alliance That Drugs Our Kids."  Here is how the piece starts:

Olivia Hernandez always trusted the doctors who scribbled out prescription after prescription for the heavy-duty psychiatric drugs that clouded her teenage years in foster care. Now, she feels “betrayed.”

Three of her former doctors are among a chosen group of California foster care prescribers who received gifts and payments for meals, travel, speaking and industry-sponsored research from the world’s biggest pharmaceutical companies.

A three-part investigation by the San Jose Mercury News has found that drugmakers, anxious to expand the market for some of their most profitable products, spent more than $14 million from 2010 to 2013 to woo the California doctors who treat this captive and fragile audience of patients at taxpayers’ expense.

Drugmakers distribute their cash to all manner of doctors, but the investigation found that they paid the state’s foster care prescribers on average more than double what they gave to the typical California physician. The connection raises concerns that Hernandez and many other unsuspecting youth have been caught in the middle of a big-money alliance that could be helping to drive the rampant use of psychiatric medications in the state’s foster care system.

I am sympathetic to those advocates concerned that a legalized marijuana industry will end up being eager to market pot products to young users. But, as this article highlights, Big Pharma not only markets drug products to kids, but it has a huge group of licensed drug dealers (doctors) helping them peddle drug products.

I thought this question was settled long ago. Here is a huge study done 15 years ago. Drug rehab and medication treatment not only reduce addictions but also income generating crimes by up to 38%.

"... captive and fragile audience of patients at taxpayers’ expense."

Again, we are in the Twilight Zone. These are the kids that are attacking teachers, and destroying the learning of an entire class. Remember when we said, wo know the violent career criminals from age 3? How? By the spinning of their crime meters at supersonic speeds, even at that age. How would medication reduce voluntary choices such as stealing and lying? By slowing impulsive acts, so that people can think more.

Young users are already smoking more pot than are drinking alcohol. That may be a factor in the dropping crime rates in that population. As to physicians being drug dealers to addicts, the reverse is true. Kids refuse to take medications, and must be pressured to do so. In contrast, addicts demand higher doses. And parents will not leave the office without getting help because their lives are being destroyed and they are in physical danger from these out of control kids.

Once again, I am demanding that anyone criticizing these practices be forced to take one of these poor victims to their homes. The lawyer has deterred effective corporal punishment. The child abuse laws seem to target Southern child rearing practices. And minorities have grown up with them and are using them. Thus the number of children removed from home to generate make work jobs disproportionally falls on the black community. This is racial profiling and targetting. So entitled kids run rough shod over families and teachers in class.

Now the lawyer is coming after medication management. Why? The alternative to corporal punishment and to medication management is to control vicious aggressive kids with massive staffing with government make work jobs for registered Democratic Party members. Ideally, each of these kids would get one to one staffing, generating millions of make work jobs for Democratic Party members.

Assume the doctor is a corrupt drug dealer, who will prescribe wrongfully in order to be bribed with a ham sandwich.

Why would the parents and teachers say, you did not take your meds today, and demand a late administration of medication? Who bribed them? And do so every day for years. Who bribed the parents demanding these treatments?

I have tried three times to post links to summaries of two large studies showing the benefits of treatment with medication son the crime rate.

These have not been posted. I will try again later.
