John Oliver (often amusingly) covers Prez Obama's clemencies and mandatory minimums

This is a frequent one in propaganda. The Exception Fallacy.

One may pick individual cases to make the point more human. However, one is obligated to not mislead by failing to provide denominators, and overall statistics.

So pictures of a horrific car crash may not be used to ban cars without also saying such a crash occurs once in 100 million miles of driving.

The missing statistic is that a 40% reduction across all crime saved over 100,000 black murder victims from being killed for competing with these non-violent drug dealers over 25 years. We also do not know the full background of the person spending 55 years for a small amount of marijuana while in possession of a gun. A small number of releases has already resulted in a surge in the murder rate again. No mention of that.

If mockery is persuasive to people, then John Oliver should be listened to. I find his shouting annoying, and his strained delivery unpersuasive. Hardly ever funny to me.
